Costa del Silencio

Costa del Silencio

Costa del Silencio is a small resort on the south coast of Tenerife approximately 12 kilometers to the east of Playa de las Americas.

Costa del Silencio translates into English as "The Silent Coast". This might have been true a few decades ago, when Tenerife was only an island with small fishing villages, however, since the Reina Sofia International Airport opened in 1978, it became a popular holiday resort. Silence is certainly a sparse commodity ever since.

The resort now known as Costa del Silencio was one of the first villages that were developed for tourism in Tenerife. This development materialized as the Ten-Bel complex, which was a joint venture between Spanish and Belgian investors. The impact that Ten-Bel has had on the economy of the area is still visible. The complex divides the village into 4 areas known as Alborada, Eureka, Maravilla and Primavera, with each of these areas having their own swimming pools and other communal facilities.

The nearest beach of any size to Costa del Silencio is a short walk away to the west, towards the town of Las Galletas. However the small natural harbor of Costa del Silencio has been expanded to provide moorings for an ever increasing number of leisure boats.

Behind the harbor, there is a nice promenade that has a number of very good restaurants with fresh sea food every day. This combined with a wide variety shops, bars and other restaurants, have made this area of the town a very popular meeting place for locals and visitors alike.
