Teide National Park

Teide National Park

Situated on the island of Tenerife, Teide National Park (Parque Nacional del Teide) is one of the most visited national parks of Spain. Its highest point is the Teide volcano 3,718 m that happens to be the highest peak on Spanish soil.

Teide National Park lies around Mount Teide, the highest mountain of Spain and its islands of the Atlantic (it is the third largest volcano in the world from its base in the ocean floor to its top). The Spanish government turned the area into a national park on 22nd of January in 1954, making it one of the oldest national parks in the country. It is also the largest and one of the most visited national parks in Spain (with a total of 2.8 million visitors annually); an important part of the Canary Islands. And there’s more then one volcano in the park! The Pico Viejo (next to Teide) is the second largest volcano in the Canary Islands with its 3,135 m’s peak. The park has an area of 18,990 hectares and was named a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on June 29, 2007. You can have a great view over the Park halfway up Teide. The mountain gives home to the telescopes of Observatorio del Teide.

The Teide, at 3,718 m, is the tallest mountain in Spain, and the Pico de Teide is the third biggest volcano on Earth, offering a breathtaking view of the whole island. The volcano last erupted in 1909, but it is active even today. In good weather the whole of Tenerife can be seen well, and in cloudy conditions, you can marvel at the impenetrable clouds.

The Teide volcano is the most famous natural icon of Tenerife and the Canary Islands. Visit Tenerife and enjoy nature’s presence. Rent a Car in Tenerife will help you find the best rental vehicles on your travels.
