Candelaria lies in the south-east of Tenerife. The indigenous people found a sacred image of the Candelaria virgin on a cliff, who is now known as the patron saint of the Canary Islands.

The town of Candelaria is surrounded by pre-historic caves where cemeteries were discovered with the mummies of the Guanche; the Guanche funeral ceremonies are very similar to Egyptian pharaohs.

La Laguna, full name San Cristóbal de la Laguna, has been a World Heritage Site since 1999. The town, rich in monuments, was the capital of Tenerife from the 1496 Spanish invasion until 1723.

Interesting these big cities were modeled on La Laguna by Spanish invaders. Tenerife's second most populous city, its old capital is waiting for exploration, with cozy little streets and houses.
